Sophomores

Welcome Sophomores! Please apply for the academy using the link below. If you have completed a STEM competition, you can utilize the link below.  Please submit the documentation form to an academy coordinator located in the Innovation Center. To apply for the upper-level recognition, you must have completed three semesters of classes, and compleate the upper-level recognition application using the link below. 

Sophomore Cohort Application

Students are grouped in Math, Science, and English. They have the opportunity to work with peers that have the same interests and motivations. Cohort classes offer opportunities for enhanced instruction, such as more speakers and additional field trips. Enhanced instruction includes:

  • Extensive laboratory experience using the latest technologies and current computer-based software and hardware
  • Emphasis on critical thinking skills in advanced math and science courses
  • Focus on technical writing skill development
This form is used if you are new to the academy and applying for the first time as an incoming Sophomore to the cohort.

Math or Science Competition Documentation

This form should be filled out and signed by your event coach. This form will help you keep a log of all your hours. (30 min hours per competition) Turn in all completed forms to the MSA Coordinator in the Innovation Center.
 
Each MSA student is required to compete in two Math and/or Science competitions.
 

Upper Level Recognition Program

Scholar, Commended Scholar, and Distinction Program Application

This online application enables students to apply for the Scottsdale Math and Science Academy's Scholar, Commended Scholar, and Distinction Programs.  Students can select a method of contact to meet with the upperclassmen academy advisor, who will assist them in developing their program of study.
